Cricket World Cup, the international cricket championship held at a gap of four years, which is the main event in one-day cricket and is one of the most watched sports competitions in the world.

  • In 1975, the first Cricket World Cup was fought in England as a series of one-day matches of 60 overs per match.
  • It was held for the first time in 1987, outside of England, India and Pakistan.
  • The number of over-overs in the 1987 competition also decreased to 50.

Cricket World Cup 2026

2026 Cricket World Cup (officially ICC Cricket World Cup 2026) will be the 13th edition of the Cricket World Cup, which will be held by India from 9 February to 26 March 2026. This will be the first time that the competition is fully organized in India. The last three editions were partially hosted there – 1987, 1996 and 2011.

Qualification

With the previous version, there will be ten teams in the tournament.

The main route for qualification will be the 2026-22 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League Tournament.

For the World Cup, the top seven parties and hosts (India) of thirteen contestants in the league will qualify automatically.

The remaining five teams, along with five associate parties, will play in the 2026 Cricket World Cup qualifiers, out of which two sides will go through the final tournament.

Cricket World Cup  points table 

The 12th edition of the cricket World Cup will be hosted by England and Wales from May 30 to July 14 2019.

  1. As per the tournament format, all teams will play a total of nine league matches, against each opposition.
  2. At the end of the league stages, four teams will progress to the knockouts or semis based on the world cup points table.
  3. The ICC world cup 2019 points table will be decided on the basis of the teams which have the most points in descending order.
  4. Teams will be given two points for a win, one point for a tie/NR (except the semi-finals and final which will be decided by a super over in case of a tie), and no points for a loss.
  5. The top four teams in the ICC world cup points table by the end of the group stages will then take part in the semi-final, with the winners playing the final.
